Provision’s 2025 Impact Recap

As we head into the new year, we are so grateful for our customers and our team for making it possible to create such a positive impact by using Provision’s CarbonBetter® energy supply.

Home energy use accounts for roughly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States (PNAS, 2020), but Provision customers are working to change that. In this post, we’ll recap the highlights of the impact we’ve made together in 2025.

How Our Customers Make a Difference – Automatically

Before we review our customers’ impact in 2025, let’s review how Provision customers can make a positive impact every time they use energy at home:

Clean Energy

You fund clean energy generation when we match 100% of your power usage with RECs.

Reduce Carbon

You reduce carbon released when we offset 100% of your natural gas usage with carbon credits.

Plant Trees

You plant trees that will capture carbon as you use energy. This is using energy for good.

For each area, impact is calculated based on our customers’ billings in the impact month, but planting, funding, and offsetting may not happen in that month. These activities must align with planting seasons and project life cycles to be effective.

How Much Renewable Electricity Provision Customers Have Funded

Provision customers have funded 237,150,000 kWh of clean energy generation since October 2020! That’s like avoiding 103,666,919 pounds of coal burned.

Renewable Energy Credits Explained

100% renewable electricity is included automatically in every Provision electricity supply plan, and we use renewable energy certificates, or RECs, to deliver on our clean energy promise.

Homes are connected to the power grid by transmission lines, and the electricity that’s supplied is derived from a variety of generation resources, both renewable and non-renewable. This is because when clean energy is generated and put on the grid, it’s mixed with other fuel sources there, making it difficult for environmentally conscious consumers to supply their homes with 100% clean energy.

Provision customers ensure more clean energy is put on the grid by funding renewable generators through the purchase of RECs. Provision carefully selects projects like those featured in this 2024 Impact Update to ensure that the steps we take today help build a better future.

Here are details about a few of the projects we supported in 2025.

Rio Anapu–Pacajá REDD Project (February 2025)

Deep in the Brazilian Amazon, the Rio Anapu–Pacajá REDD Project safeguards more than 165,000 hectares of irreplaceable rainforest in a region long pressured by unplanned logging and grazing. By valuing the forest as a living economic asset, the project helps local riverine communities secure land titles, adopt clean cookstoves, access better education, and find stable employment. In a place where the average living wage is under three dollars a day, the project demonstrates that protecting the forest can deliver dignity, opportunity, and long-term resilience, while keeping one of the planet’s most critical ecosystems standing.

The Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project (March 2025)

In western Democratic Republic of Congo, the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project works at the intersection of climate, biodiversity, and human development. Protecting nearly 250,000 hectares of forest, the project pushes back against industrial logging, fuelwood overextraction, and slash-and-burn agriculture. These forests are home to chimpanzees, bonobos, forest elephants, and globally significant wetlands, making conservation here a matter of global importance. Alongside environmental protection, the project invests directly in local communities through schools, healthcare centers, and educational workshops, ensuring that conservation is paired with social progress.

Uluabat Hydroelectric Power Plant (April 2025)

Located along the Orhaneli Creek in Türkiye, the Uluabat Hydroelectric Power Plant is a 100 MW integrated energy and water infrastructure project that delivers benefits far beyond clean power. By displacing fossil fuel–based electricity on the grid, the project generates meaningful emissions reductions while providing a reliable source of renewable energy. At the same time, the associated dam secures long-term drinking water for the city of Bursa and irrigation for surrounding agricultural lands, supporting both urban resilience and rural livelihoods in the region.

Reducing Gas Leakages within the Titas Gas Distribution Network (May 2025)

In the rapidly growing urban landscape of Greater Dhaka, this project tackles climate change at its source by addressing methane leaks in an aging natural gas distribution network. Through advanced leak detection and repair techniques, the project significantly reduces emissions from poorly maintained infrastructure that would otherwise release large volumes of methane into the atmosphere. By improving system efficiency and safety, the initiative delivers immediate climate benefits while strengthening essential energy services for millions of residents.

Advanced Refrigeration Project (June 2025)

This project transforms commercial refrigeration manufacturing by replacing high–global warming potential refrigerants with climate-friendly alternatives. Traditional refrigerants such as R-134a and R404a are hundreds of times more damaging to the climate than the low-GWP refrigerant used in this project. Once the new refrigerant is embedded into the product during manufacturing, the emissions reductions are permanent; there is no risk of reversal. The result is a scalable, durable climate solution that locks in emissions savings across the entire lifetime of each refrigeration unit produced.

80 MW Solar Project by Fermi Solar Farms – Chalisgaon (July 2025)

In Maharashtra, India, the Chalisgaon solar project stands as a mature, proven example of large-scale renewable energy deployment. Commissioned in 2018, the 108 MWp solar photovoltaic plant feeds clean electricity directly into the Indian grid, reducing dependence on fossil fuels while meeting growing energy demand. Backed by a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India, the project offers long-term stability and has delivered reliable performance for more than six years, demonstrating how solar energy can anchor a resilient, low-carbon power system.

How Many Trees Provision Customers Have Planted

Provision customers have funded the planting of 178,385 trees since October 2020, simply by using CarbonBetter® energy at home!

Trees Planted 2025 Provision

Trees are carbon-capturing superheroes! To address our carbon debt, we need to use less energy and use renewable energy when we can, but we also need to capture carbon that’s already in the atmosphere, and that’s what trees do best. Provision CarbonBetter® plans reduce the amount of carbon released through home energy use by including 100% carbon offset natural gas and 100% renewable electricity on all energy plans. Plus, all Provision plans plant trees, taking you from carbon neutral to CarbonBetter®.

Ecodrive

In 2024, Provision customers funded the planting of 2,500 trees by Ecodrive to help restore mangroves in Kenya. You can track our progress on our impact dashboard. Mangrove reforestation provides coastal protection, biodiversity benefits, and economic opportunities for local communities.

In previous years, funding was provided to plant trees in Ghana with OKO Forests and the Kokrobitey Institute. Agroforestry is a farming and reforestation practice that offers a unique opportunity for carbon sequestration while delivering significant additional benefits to local communities.

Provision customers are making a difference across the globe by supporting our tree-planting efforts with Ecodrive.

How Much Carbon Provision Customers Have Offset

Provision customers have offset 156,185 Tons of carbon since October 2020! Per the EPA, that’s like avoiding almost 360,820,415 miles of driving!

A carbon offset is a reduction or storage of carbon emissions that is used to compensate for emissions elsewhere. For Provision customers, this means offsetting the carbon released by home energy use, thereby making their impact “neutral.” Provision customers use 100% carbon offset natural gas and plant trees, taking their energy supply from carbon neutral to CarbonBetter®.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we head into 2026, we are focused on increasing our collective positive impact, powered by CarbonBetter® clean energy. Provision customers are automatically making a difference through funding clean energy, offsetting carbon, and planting trees.

Provision customers get an update each month on what impact they’ve personally made since they’ve chosen Provision for their energy supply, and it’s wonderful to see our positive impact grow each month.

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2026, and we’re honored to be your energy supplier in the years ahead.
